Finally a stretch of work

Got a little work done today. Stopped by Goodmark and picked up some sheetmetal, but mainly spent time pressure washing the motor and frame, removing the radiator cradle, and then removed some stuff from the firewall. I have the next week off, so I'll be back at it Monday through Wednesday. Here are some pics of today's progress.

What is the deal with the tierod tube is it a two piece seperated by the steering dampner ?

Well day #2 and it rained (alot). Last week I had the hood at the house and chemically stripped it. Today, I used the DA sander and completely stripped the top, conditioned the metal, and did a little filler work on some of the larger dings. I finally unboxed the new door and stripped the primer off and did a little filler work on a couple of bad spots (new, but not perfect). I ended up making a trip to Goodmark to swap a wrong part, so progress was slow. The rain combined with lack of shop space slowed me down.

c-1072 - That is just the clamp for the dampner on the centerlink. It does look a little funny after looking at the pic.

Tomorrow I hope to strip the two fenders and the tailgate and spray epoxy primer on the hood, doors, and fenders. On Wednesday, I plan to sand all the parts and put them in yellow high build (K200) primer. I hope to replace some gaskets on the motor, paint it and paint the front of the frame on Friday (supposed to be nice).

The picture is of the hood how it started today. All of the pictures I took after that had spots all over them. I'm not sure if rain got on the lens or it was the dust from the bodyshop.

Well, day #3 (Tuesday) is done and it is still raining in Atlanta. Today I ended up being able to put the parts in both epoxy and high-build primer. Wednesday is off and back at it on Friday and Saturday. Here are some pics of the progress so far.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've been waiting to do this for years. I would save and then something else would happen to put it on the back burner. Well, it moved up to the front and now its getting done. I've got two more days left to work on her this week, and I plan to prep the firewall for paint, seal engine, and hopfully paint both the engine and the front half of the frame. I've got plenty left to do, but with two weeks off during Christmas it will either be painted or very close by the end of the year. Two more days of pics coming. Thanks, Jeremy.

How hard is the expoxy primer and high fill primer to use? I am going to get to start putting some on my 69 someday and better figure out how to use it. Thanks, Jeff.

Chris - Thanks and no keeping it pretty stock.

Red- I'm working on it at a buddy's shop, so he has been doing most of the spraying and all of the mixing. I've sprayed a good bit and it is easy to work with. I'll be blocking for days with all the fill primer I've got on this thing.

Alright Day #4 and one more left. I pretty much spent the entire day cleaning the firwall and getting it ready for paint. We decided to get the firewall painted, so tomorrow I could work with the frame and engine and hopefully get this thing back to running before long. Since I can only work a couple of weekends a month and holidays, I need to keep it out of their way and pushing it around is a pain.

I used a scotch-brite pad and enamel reducer to clean all the black whatever it was (paint, grease, undercoating, ??) off the firewall. After the cleaning I did some sanding and then put it in primer. I then sanded the primer and we shot silver. Hope to get the motor and frame done tomorrow. We'll see.

Thanks blue. The new paint put a nice finishing touch on an otherwise pain-in-the-butt day of work. That picture makes it look brighter than the color is in person.

Day #5 is done and so is the week o' blazer work. Man once you take the intake off the work slows down. I thought I'd get alot more done today than I did. Basically, the only thing I got done was take off the intake, clean it, sandblast it, and paint it with high temp clear spray bomb. I tried to get the engine cleaned, but time didn't cooperate. I did spray a little black around the front of the block to get an idea what it would look like. I've got a ways to go to get the engine cleaned up and painted nevermind the frame and stuff. I am having to rush the work a lot more than I want to, but it takes two hours round trip to get to my buddies shop. I figure I can spend some time on the accesories later on. I basically want to get the frame and motor pained and then get it running to reduce the sled pushing. Here a few pics of today's progress (or lack thereof). Later.
