Question Has anyone used a 700R4 WITH A TILT COLUMN ??

Has anyone installed a 700R4 WITH A TILT STEERING COLUMN in one of these trucks. Does anything special have to be done to the column or linkage ? Any input greatly appreciated ............thanks. brad moore.

Need to know the same thing.

Hope someone with this knowledge will reply. I am thinking about putting an overdrive in mine and also have a 3-speed auto tilt column.

if you're talking about the factory tilt, it's a no-brainer.... didn't have to change a thing...

the tilt is from a latter Chevy VAN

The tilt I have is from a late 70s van.........if that matters. I've shortened the shaft which is between the column and the steering box.

i think you guys overlooked that he is putting in a 700r4 so the indacaters wont match up,if you run a 3speed colum you wont be able to find the gears as easy...

i don't think anybody makes an indicator for a 700r4 conversion. i shaped a piece of lexan, bought some letters & numbers and made my own.

I was wondering about that also!

I am getting ready to drop a 700R4 in mine soon and wanted the indicators to line up and show the correct gear...

where did you get the lexan?

A friend here lenghthened the linkage shaft from the column to the tranny connection. It made the shift indicator line up on the column. Only thing is that low gear is below the indicator some. Now this was on a stabdatrd automatic column and not a tilt. On a tilt you have that plastic pointer, so Im not sure this would work. Do these other members still have the white pointer in the column to indicate shift postion?

Bowtie Overdrives has an indicator made by IDIDIT. If you grind it down slightly it will fit into the back of the stock indicator housing. I have factory tilt with a 700R4 and this indicator and it lines up perfect.

By the way the white plastic pointer still works and I used Kugal shift linkage but I'm sure stock linkage can be made to work.

I will have to think of something ot make it work and line ukp...
