How important is it...
to run manifolds on a factory resto? I really like my coated headers on the 71, but don't want to detract from my resto on the 69. How big a point drop will I be looking at if I put them on the 69? Thanks, Jeff.

What show are you talking about these point drops?
Do you really want to win that show bad enough to change your exhaust system to one you don't like as much? I won a ton of trophies with trucks in the past, and frankly, it get's old real freakin fast. Car shows bring out the worst in people. Bickering and badmouthing are the rule of the day at most of them around here. I haven't entered any of my vehicles in a show in years, yet the cars still get the same attention without the entry sheet under the windshield wiper as they did with one, and there's less heartaches.

I've never put one in a show and this would be the first if I ever get to. You make it sound like maybe I won't try after all. Guess I was just looking for an excuse to run coated headers! Thanks Tx. Jeff.

It's your truck, not the judges. You're gonna be driving not the judges. It's gonna be sitting in your driveway, not the judges. Do what you want, it's your truck. JMHO

67-72 truck guys arent like those anal rententive chevelle guys who have to have every single pipe clamp and belt with the right damn date codes on them, and they just look at any chevelle and find if there is a body mount not installed perfectly perpendicular to the frame, Its a truck, enjoy it, do what you want with it because isnt this supposed to be fun?!! (chevelle guys pls dont get mad at me)

My truck could never win a factory resto....'78 350, '86 700R4, '71 GMC disk brakes with power booster, I've cut the dash , 2 1/4" dual exhaust, '01 silverado bench....if I ever get it in the truck...., '72 column and custom door panels...soon to be a relocated blazer tank....need I go on? I could care less about car shows....I don't even go anymore....unless there is a big swap meet!!! :p My truck gets more attention at Dairy Queen, Wal-Mart or on the street than it ever would at a show. It means more to me when someone walks out of their way at Wal-Mart or where ever to take a peek at that black truck they saw out of the corner of their eye. I've also owned an '86 toyota....I was NEVER told, hey nice truck!!!! Point is, it's your truck, don't let someone else's idea of what it SHOULD look like influence how YOU want YOUR truck to look!!!

Damn, I go to these car shows and enjoy every single vehicle out there regardless of year, make, or condition. You would think that there is a sort of comraderie out there because you are all classic buffs. I guess not
