Frame conversion LWB to Blazer 2wd

Just interested if anyone has converted a LWB coil spring frame (71) into a Blazer frame.
I bought a Blazer tub and I have a 71 LWB BB and TH400 that the body is rough.
Anyway can it be done, and what are the watchouts ?
Or should I just find a Blazer frame in Arizona.

i think it can be done. you can cut down the lwb frame to the wheelbase of the blazer but you will have to fab up the body mounts. i would watch out for the alignment of the body and frame and make sure the body bushings are the correct height. off the top of my head that's all i can think of. if you try it good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply, I did some more searches on this after I posted this question.
It does not seem like it has come up much if ever, and most people are using a 4x4 frame and converting it using 2wd components. Not sure that is an option for me unless someone has one local to Phoenix and cheep. All I would need is the bare frame and I would use the long bed suspension.

I want to be smart about it and don't want to ruin a perfectly good frame. But I have very limited funds for this project because of a different project that requires more money than time and effort at this point. So I want to use parts that I already have.
Anyway, any additional help or information is greatly appreciated.

Well in my opinion and from what I’ve heard is that it would not be an easy conversion, and I haven’t heard of anyone doing it. The blazer frame is obviously shorter, and (I think) it steps up in the back which is different than the truck, all in all it would requires some mild to serious modification, depending on your skills. May want to try and find a schematic of both frames for measurements and comparison, pretty sure it’s in the assembly manual, maybe someone can scan that for you. I’m sure that someone will correct me if I’m wrong on any of the info.

I found a site with all the frame specs defined at

It appears they are very similar, yet not. Hence my question of has anyone done it or is it worth doing. I really appreciate the discussion, if nothing else it's interesting to think about.


After looking at his site again it looks like the frame stuff is for 73 and up trucks and blazers. Oh well...

Looks like from the pics of that frame the two are the same exept for the length and the rear frame ends they are definetly different . I suggest getting the rite frame man if there isnt one in az i dont think you can get one . I just so dam jelous of those sw states .

It would seem to me that I would easier,cheaper and less time and energy to just find a 4x4 blazer,swap the suspension from a 71 72 longbed truck,instead of experimenting with cutting up a frame only to find out its out of square,going down the highway sideways, and you cant get it aligned correctly.Then getting fustrated and not wanting to complete it cause its not right. Keep it simple, and go the 4x4 to 2 wheel conversion,many have done it already and you can get plenty of help, from the board members.Just my two cents.

Are you planning on using the lwb control arms? I think they may be a different length... measure yours and I'll measure mine to compare for you.
