remove standard shifter handle 87 Jimmy
Anybody know what keeps the shifter handle (standard shift) in an 87 Jimmy? It looks a lot like my old CJ Tremec (toploader style) T176, but that just pushed down, and twisted to release the handle. I am pulling the tranny and engine out as one unit, I just can't get at the bellhousing bolts since the truck is outside and it's too cold to work underneath for any length of time. I thing I was starting to get frostbite last night.

If you have the heavy-duty 4spd (I think it's the SM465??) it should come out the same way. Sometimes they're stuck in there pretty good. On some I've had to use an old screw driver and a hammer to bump it down a little and get it started moving (counter-clockwise ) before they would come out. Try to hit as far to the outer edge as you can, over one lock pin and then the other. Best of luck.

Thank you Nut. I was just reading my Haynes manual, which seems to say the same thing. I saw two little screws in there I couldn't reach, and thought there might be more to it than that. Thanks again!
