Newbie Needs Help K3500 Please?
Hey Guys,
Just joined the forum, looks very nice, and CERTAINLY very informative. I just bought a 67 (number 2), but this question is about my 1989 (old style body being a K3500 so I posted it here). It's a 4X4, 1 ton crew cab that has had the rear end changed from a dually to a single wheel. I'm trying to keep it that way, but, the front axle uses Budd wheels and the rear uses a stock standard "flat" rim! My question, is, can I, or HOW can I change the front axle/spindle to accept the standard type wheel? Also, I'm needing a front drive shaft for it, it was in my parts pile that my ex sold for scrap. Anybody know what it interchanges with? Any help with these questions would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

You can buy the hub and rotor assemblies from GM to switch over. p/n 15635530 . They come complete with races installled all you need to buy is bearings. Then sell yours to recover some of the cost. GM wants like $230 a piece for them. I have an account with them and get them for $150.00. If interested I could order some an ship them to you. It would save some money. Shipping on them is around $50 to just about anywhere(have done this for about 15 people)
On the drive shaft, what tranny and tcase set up do you have? can you measure the length from mounting surface on t-case output to the yoke on the front end. I have got several shafts, just need to know your length. |

You have to get different hub for the single wheel application.
There are some mods people do to dually hubs to convert to single , but thats strickly for off road application...makes hub weaker.

Yah but some poeple find dana 60 duallys cheaper and mod em..they weld up the area thats weak too. But with all the mods I wouldn't use it for street applications.

That last site posted is AWESOME!!! Thanks, that should be the "Bible for 4x4"!! Anybody have an idea what my used DRW hubs/rotors would be worth in good usable condition? Changing out the rotors looks like just sliding everything off, or will I need pullers? I've had this truck for a few years, but never had the brakes apart! (YET)!!!!
And, Joey, she scrapped my drive shaft AFTER I got rid of her, she broke into my house! So, beware, you never ever really know a woman, I thought I did after 25+ years, but didn't!!!!! Hey guys, I also have a 1989 Dually for sale, 4X2 with a utility bed, really clean if anybody's interested. I bought it from the County Fire Department, so it's been really taken care of. I'd like to have $4,500 for that one. Anybody that wants info/pic, just let me know. I live in Myrtle Beach, I can't think of a better "reason" for a vacation to Myrtle Beach than to pick up a truck, so that should be an easy sell to the little lady!! Thanks |

yep, they just slide off after taking the spindle nuts off. The caliper slides/holders usually take a little tapping on with a a hammer and screwdriver or chisel to get them moving. Shouldn't take more the 45 minutes per side. Your hubs and rotors go for anywhere from 90 to 150 all depends on condition, how much it is to ship, how bad they need them, stuff like that.
