Anybody running Hedman headers part no. 69090? They are the long tube small block headers. I am wondering how far they hang down below the frame. I think I might be lowered too far to make them work.

yes I have the Hedman long tube headers on my 327, as far as ground clearance goes I wasnt to worried because mine is 4-wheel drive. But looking at them now I'd say they only hang down 3-4 inches maybe more. I dont know if it was something I did but after having them on my truck for 2 years and keeping them clean the passanger side one has a hole about the size of a pencil rusted through on it (And I do mean clean I owna auto detail business) my friend claims I rubbed the hole in it from washing them too much..he he lol. But performance and sound wise...A+...great stuff they are!

I have Headmans on my truck, but I doubt if I can help. My truck has a big block in it...

Got Hedmans on mine. Not sure of the part #. They've been on the truck since about '85. I can't complain. Not one single problem with the headers. Well they didn't clear the clutch linkage perfectly but we got it to work.

NOT 2 HIJACK, BUT I AM ALSO CONSIDERING HEDMANS, HAS ANYONE EVER
USED THE STYLE LIKE BELOW IN THE PIC (FROM ANY MANUFACTURE) BEST
FRIEND RUNS A MUFFLER SHOP & HE SAID THE ONES WITH THE BALL TYPE
FLANGES DON'T LEAK, ALSO CONSIDERING SHORTY'S SINCE IT'S A 4X4

I am running Headman long tube headers on my 70, 2wd swb fleetside, 327. I have a 4 speed grannie trannie, everything cleared nicely, my truck is a 2"/4" drop. The headers hang down quite a bit, I have 4" clearance from the ground to the collector. So far, no issues, however, has not been tested over those annoying speed bumps.

My truck is probably dropped too much for these then since I have only about 8.5 inches of clearance now with just the springs and want it lower. With 2.5 spindles (about the right drop) I will only have 6 inches from the frame to the ground. That will not leave much room. I suppose that I could run higher with bags and it might be fine.

KTLX, thisole, and gmc...does the entire collector hang below the frame?

I bought that exact same set of headers except I didn't get them coated because I need to weld in a O2 bung for the TPI. They were recomended by a friend that owns a muffler shop too.

I've got 69096's on my bagged '67. Its the same header as the 90's but HPC'd. With 2 1/2" spindles and a coil cut that left me with 3 " of clearance and they dragged on EVERYTHING. So .... I bagged it. Now I can clear when I need to and GOLOW when I want to.

mac, Thanks...that is just what I wanted to hear. I had them on a '77 but we slammed it and went to the Dynomax Chevelle shorty headers to get ground clearance and I could not remember how long they were. Lost tons of torque with that move and regretted it. I can't pass up the new Hedmans in the original box for $40! Whooo hoooo!

for a full lenght set that works with a dropped truck, go Hooker comp. i run the 2452's (painted ) on my longhorn....they hang 2" below the rails

I already told the guy to ship them...LOL! I just could not turn down new headers in the box for $40! I am dropped about 4 inches in front now and I have clearance. When I go to the 2.5 inch drop spindles and bags they will still not hit before the lower control arms so that is fine by me. If I ever decide to lay frame I will just put them on the work truck and go with a set of Dynomax Chevelle shorties I guess. I just hate to lose the torque you get with the long tube headers. But a truck laying frame is not built for performance anyway.

Just the opinion of an old bottom feeder trying to build a hot rod out my piggy bank!

I have a set for my inline 250 and they hang down way too much! Heddman could have done a better job in the engineering department!

Answer to your question, the top of the collector is right at the bottom of the frame, so yes they hang down past the frame. I used a S-collector from Headman which raised the pipe even with the frame and tuck the pipes away. 2.5" with flowmasters mounted below the bed, sounds good.

Not sure of the p/n but they are Hedman with the newer style collector.

KTLX and 68jimmy...thanks...that is just what I needed. They arrived and are ready for whatever truck I decide to put them on now. I may end up with a stock height truck for yard hauling so they will work fine there...or on the bagged truck...we will see. I just could not pass up that deal.
