I just bought a 1984 C10, with modified 305 (cam/headers/duals -w- flowmasters/and Edelbrock 1406 carb and Edelbrock intake)....runs GREAT! SOUNDS INCREDIBLE!!!
Anyway, back to my question-problem-----There seems to be some slop in the accelerator pedal...about an inch of play before I get a feel of engaging or gassing the carb.......I am not sure what kind of carb linkage is on here....is there a way to adjust the linkage and get better feel thru the acc. pedal? The spring on the carb is not too tight...it revs very freely at the carb......ideas??

It had a cable from the factory, the only adjustment was the idle speed screw.

Factory carbs had two return springs. Have an assistant check the action of the throttle while you push on the pedal from inside. You might get a better idea of whats happening.

Well, did some crawling around under the dash looking at the acc. pedal and the throttle cable...it seems there is a lot of slack before the pedal pulls the cable....I can push the acc. pedal down and there is about an inch of play before it pulls the throttle cable

.......any way to adjust this or just need a new cable? How do I install a new throttle cable?

GM made a few different cables. You cannot adjust them, you will have to find the right style.

You could also alter your stock bracket or you could get an adjustable throttle cable bracket.

It just seems like taking a look at mine, that there is too much slack where the linkage fits into the throttle bracket.......any way to take up the slack with the factory bracket? Which Edelbrock throttle linkage should I go for with an Edelbrock 1406 carb and 84 chevy c10 -w- auto?

Depending on how the cable attaches to the carb, you might be able to cut the end off the cable and shorten it up with a cable clamp.

I drove my truck for several years with the cable stop the PO had installed. It was a small brass fitting that slid over the end of the cable and had a screw that was tightened against the cable. It was installed in place of the factory crimped end.

My only complaint with the aftermarket cable brackets is that they seem flimsy compared to the factory parts. You might see what Edelbrock suggests.
