Which Manual Do I want?
Hi Folks,
Wow, it's been a super-long time since I've posted anything. I've been sticking my head in every once in a while, but with the truck parked for the winter, not too many questions on the brain - - until now... I'm just wondering what kind of shop manual I should be looking for for my truck. I have the aftermarket ones, but would really love an actual Chevrolet "Shop Manual". I am a recent eBayer, and have seen a number of different manuals available (i.e. light-duty, medium-duty, unit repair, etc...). What should the cover of the manual say for my truck (see sig)? Any suggestions on how/where to get a good shop manual would be great. Oh and FYI I am in Canada, so shipper would need to be willing to ship north. Thanks Guys, |

A set of electrical drawings are a great resource too. I bought my manuals new from helminc.com and got the light duty service manual, the unit repair manual, a set of 11x17 electrical drawings and the tbi manual (I have an '87). For everyday repairs and diagnostics you want the service manual. The unit repair gets into rebuilding specific components (engine, transmission, sometimes air conditioning compressors, etc) The whole set ended up costing me about $150 and the canadian dollar was not as strong when I got mine two years ago. Keep that in mind because some of the manuals tend to get pricey on ebay. Good luck.

I checked 85 and 86, they seem to still carry them:

1) I assume these manuals are better than the Haynes manual I have now? (Actually it doesn't take much ) 2) It sounds as if the price of $30 US includes the shop manual, electrical drawings and the unit repair manual - - is that right, because that seems like a pretty great price? |

This is the price I'm used to seeing, so that $30 is a hell of a deal. They must be trying to get rid of them!

Man I love to have a set, but they dont have any for my '78. The first year I can find a listing for is '84. $30 is a heck of a deal. I gave $120 for the GM set on ebay for my S10.

Thanks for all the advice Guys. Most definitely, if this is what it looks like, it is one heck of a deal.
I placed the order this morning, so I should find out in the next couple of weeks if I lucked out. I'll let y'all know. Thanks again. |
