I hauled a full size HEAVY car trailer (~3k) and a 1k lb toy on it
did fine, once we got tongue weight right ~500lbs or more truck was lifted and had bigger tires.... tongue weight and brakes are the key to pulling.

So I should have no problem towing a 3500# boat that is on a trailer with hydraulic brake?

I towed a U-Haul car trailer ( the big heavy steel type ) with a 91 Cavalier on it from Denver to Minneapolis with no problems. Got a little hairy at 70 mph but I backed down to 60 or less and kept it there. Don't know what I was thinking trying to keep up with interstate traffic !

Brakes and balance are a must!!I've towed well over 7000 lbs with my 72 2wd with no problems. I am hauling a 78 TBird from IL to CO soon (hauled it once already 2 years ago)and ran 75 with interstate traffic.IMHO balance and brakes are the most critical factor .

My Malilbu ski boat weighs 2700# dry, plus the tandem axle trailer, fuel and equipment. It weighs at least 3500# complete. You should have no troubles at that weight. Just get a good hitch so you can get the trailer level and drive defensively as the short wheelbase is not conducive to evasive maneuvers with 4000# behind it. My intuition figures GM would have rated the Blazer/Jimmy at 5000# trailer weight. I have 4.10 gears and 35" tires for ~3.30 effective gear ratio and 3/4 ton National 4" lilft springs in the back. Be careful of tongue weight as it needs to be at least 10% of the total. My boat has about a 400# tongue weight and pulls straight as an arrow. The tandem trailer really helps minimize the shock applied to the boat and I highly recommend that to anyone who is going to buy a heavy boat.

To mike C. and 7069684x4
Mike C. the boat is a Bayliner Rendezvous (deck boat) and is on a tandem axle trailer with hyd. brakes, so it should be no problem I gess.
706968 4x4 , trans cooler will be installed next week.

I drag my 20' Bayliner Trophy around with my Blazer and I don't have a problem with it. I was doing it with a 350ci engine untill I installed my 402ci. Now I don't hardly feel it behind me and have even won short drag races with Honda cars that try to drive arround me...LOL WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
