If you run a hotter thermostat you should get more heat, but most likely the one you have in there now is probably not working right or like Cheavybeast said your coolant could be low.

The heater core could also be plugged.

The thermostat and coolant are good, it's a 195degree. Might try the switching the hoses around. What about putting on a coolant flow control valve? Saw put it on the outlet side and slow down the flow. Mabe this would keep hot coolant in the heater, allowing more heat to transfer out.
Im statring to think that this is just the way the heaters on our trucks are. They just don't get the cab of the truck hot. |

The heater should get hot if everything is working correctly. What shape is the water pump in?

It's good as far as I know. Maby what I am trying to say is I dont think my trucks heat up like these new cars. I can't wear short sleaves in the middle of winter and be comfortable. Now like in one of these new cars you can get in, turn the heat on and have short sleaves and be comfortable. I would like something halfway like that.
Thanks a lot guys |

I agree with Hemi. Regardless of the outside temperature here in Calgary, after driving for 15-20 minutes, I'm turning down the fan speed and sliding the heater control partway toward "cool."
My truck is a 1986 C-20 with a 350 engine, BTW. DJS |

My 80 with a 350 gets extremely hot as well. Check that your heater ducts are all good, not that there is a big gap in one of them somewhere. Also check to make sure that the heater fan is blowing sufficiently, if there is little airflow, there will be little heat. Also, check to make sure that you don't have air in your heaterbox, that will seriously hamper the amount of heat it puts out. You can fix that by drilling a very small hole in the thermostat, and bubbles will come out of it and into the rad.

Try a light puff of air from the a compressor or air tank thru the heater core inlet. Sometimes they get gummed up with crud and/or rust.
Just a light puff, you could wreck the heater core. Had to do that on my wife's '98 GMC Jimmy. It solved the problem. It will cook you now in the dead of winter, (-20 below or more.) Just my .02 CCDually |

Where are your hoses connected?
The bottom inlet of the heater core should be hooked to the intake. The top port is the outlet and it has to be the top so it will purge air. The return goes either to the Radiator or the water pump depending on the year. 185 degree thermostat. Drop the glove box door and the heat flap is on top. Make sure its opening. All three of my trucks (2 K5s and a Sub) did fine on heat given enough time since they were SUV's All three will get your feet uncomfortably hot on the coldest day when you dump to the floor.

Had same problem .I checked a few simple things like the coolant and hoses. When my mother in law said it never got warm in the truck either it made me think something was up with this truck. It wasent til I was laid out on my floor and had the glove box down Or open all the way and then some . I see the heater controll solid wire on top of the air box . So I see that it moves to the left to close off the cold air and to the right to open the air. Then I took my fingers and try to see if I could close it farther and their was my cool air or rather my warm air problem solved I adjusted the wire and now I can cook my kids feet with the vent . One screw and a few moments .After all these years. 1984 GMC 1/2 ton long box 6.2L has hot heat in 2005. And my temp gauge always said 190-200 still blew out luke warm air.

I would check to make sure your flaps and vents are working right.
