1971 CST for sale

Well I never thought this day would come but here it is just the same...

'71 K5 CST
413ci smallblock (400; .060 over)
Comp Cams HE268 cam
Comp Cams roller rockers
New Edelbrock Performer carb
New Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
New HEI distributor
New AC Delco Rapid Fire plugs
New MSD Helicore wires
New K&N 4" air filter and housing

The engine runs very strong, detailing was done to the engine compartment while the engine was out so it looks good too. This was my daily driver off and on until 2003 when I started the engine project. Below is a short history of my ownership:

2001: Purchased in Duvall, WA.

2001: Installed full carpet set (ACC- dark saddle), replaced rocker panels, installed forward roll cage (Smittybuilt), installed new front bumper, installed wood grip steering wheel (classy!).

2003: Began installation of fold-and-tumble rear seat. This project needs to be completed. Includes shoulder belts for the front seats and all the attaching hardware for the rear seat. I still have the rear seat that was in the truck when I bought it (not original). Installed original AM radio in the dash and a Sony AM/FM/CD player in the glovebox with an amp under the passenger seat.

2003-4: Engine was torn down and inspected. I replaced one bad lifter everything else looked clean and well maintained. There is a rebuild tag on the engine block that shows it was rebuilt in 1989 and bored .060 over. The crank was turned .010 under at the same time.

The rest of the drivetrain is stock; TH350, NP 205, 12bolt limited-slip rear end, both axles are 3.07 gear ratio.

I'm asking $4700 on craigslist but I've really appreciated all the help and camaraderie on this board. So if I could make a (potential?) board member happy with a solid truck to build from I'd be willing to make a deal.

For the sake of consistency I'll ask $4700 here too but make me an offer and hopefully it can stay here on this board for us all (me) to enjoy

That is WORTH what you are asking for sure! I sure hope someone here picks it up from you.

I guarantee that you will have 0 problems selling it for what you are asking. You could eat off of that engine!

No I stole it from the '84 blazer I had before the '71.


As you can see there wasn't a whole lot to be saved... at least not in sheet metal.

The bonus is seat belts for 3 in the back seat and of course the fold-and-tumble feature.

Yeah I'm not happy to be selling it but therapy is going well.

Need Help with a wiring issue on my 72 K5

New to the board first off, But I have a 72 Blazer white with a sand color softtop, very clean been working on it off and on for years. No pics available at this time but I have a small favor, I need a picture of your fuse panel area,when I bought the truck it was a oneway plane ride to Lubbock Texas and I limped it back to Ft Worth and made it, but the guy that I bought it from owned a Audio and Alarm business and he had more crap wired into the truck I couldn't tell what was what and I have since taken it all out and I'm down to a couple things without intalling a new dash Harness (too expensive) So if you have digital camera could you snap me a couple pics of the fuse panel/horn relay wiring, I have a 72 factory service manual but I'm a little confused with a few wires. Would be greatly appreciated.

Alfonz, it would be best if you started your own new thred as opposed to tacking onto someone else's who is trying to sell his Blazer that way we can FOCUS on your problem and not confuse the issues. Which wires are you confused about? Got to get specific--like where to the plug in---what color, etc. Huck

The digital camera I used to take the pics was borrowed so it would take some time to get more pictures... Here is some details on any rust that I originally spoke with Kurt (vtblazer) about:

Overall the body is in good shape. I can tell there has been some work done to the front pass. side fender and there is a bubble forming rearward of the driverside rocker panel. I replaced both rockers when I first bought it and was able to look at the inside of the door pillars and at the rocker boxes which showed surface rust but nothing rotted through. The rocker boxes are real solid in fact. I suspect there may be some pinholes in the windshield channel corners or else the top leaks some at the front corners (big surprise!?) All in all it is a solid rig.
I debated whether or not to mention the soft top that came with it. It is old enough that I can't tell who the manufacturer was. All the hardware is in good shape, the top has no holes in the vinyl or windows and all the zippers work. The thing that needs repair are the sleeves that velcro around the door frame need to be stitched back on.

Any bedfloor rust? Pics of bubbled area when you get them. I'm trying to get a shipping quote. Doors have any rust? Does it have 72 doors on it? It looks like the pass has the screw in it where the 72's do. Thanks for your time. Randy

I would love to have it. I had to leave a 70 K5 in Pennsylvania when I moved to Las Vegas ... thats about 3000 miles away now... and was in mid tear down... besides, I dont think I could convince my better half to let me have it. .. Maybe if I put my Harley back together and sold it... but you're still 1500 miles away ...

Randy, there is no bed floor rust that I can see from below or above. The bubble is small (pencil eraser size?) I don't have easy access to the camera but I'll give it a shot. Doors have some surface rust along the bottom inside edge. Both doors have the black piece/screw just below the wing window, (I couldn't remember if that meant '71 or '72) and '72 door panels so I will say they are '72 doors.

The rocker boxes are in good shape and solid all around. there is some minor surface (mentioned above) but overall in good solid shape. There is no rust on the rear inner fender wells and the front fender wells were removed and sent to the body shop, blasted and painted when the engine was out.

Keep working on her, my wife loved cruising in it esp. summer time, drop-top style. And you are in the perfect spot for that! I am the first to admit it isn't show quality perfect but I'm always jazzed everytime I drive it- someone will wave or give a thumbs up or talk to me about it when I'm stopped. The grin factor is BIG!

Thanks to everyone who replied and had nice things to say. This isn't the end for me only a transition.

And thanks to Steve N 69 69 69 who I'm sure will love the blazer as much as I have. He'll enjoy many more topless days in So.Cal. than I ever did in N.W. Washington.
