Quick Oil Filter Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Wife's going to Walmart and I want her to pick up a SuperTech oil filter for my 72 350. What's the filter number? I'm at work, and the lady I called at Walmart didn't know over the phone. I'd hate for her to bring home a FRAM. . .

I don't know anyone other than WalMart that carries SuperTech brand. I would say go to an online auto parts store and use their system to get the part number, but if they don't sell that brand, then...it doesn't help.

There should be a book at the store to tell you the correct filter part #.

I can't find a website for Supertech.

Super Tech I think is Walmart's generic brand. I think the numbers will coincide though, If you know you need a Fram PH30, then the Supertech I think is something like a ST30, which leads me to beleive that they are made by Fram, just a theory though.

Wait - I read something on the internet earlier that said the same thing 70 Shorty has: "SuperTech brand filters now share the same numbering as Fram filters".

So, yeah, might want to have the wife look and see if there is an ST30.

i work at the wally world and FYI for all guys who think fram is the worst.... there're only 2 filter makers. choose a filter and stick with it. as long as it has enough pleets and you change regularly. acdelco filters and fram and sprtec and wix and others are the same. purolator and motorcraft and others are the same.

Like this one "Engine Oil Filter Study" The guy who did this actually cut open new filters and dicrobes what he found.
Interesting stuff.

Cut open a fram, and a NAPA gold (made by wix) or even that wall mart one...you'll NEVER say they are the same again.

I wouldn't buy any ANY ANY parts from Walmart.

Walmart has their own line "cheap sh!t" with most manufacturers.

If you don't believe me go get the part#s off of any Pioneer unit in the automotive section at Wally Fart and call Pioneer and ask them about it or go to Pioneers website and try lookin up specs.

I know stereo equipment is far from oil filters but Walfart has several "house" brands made by name brand manufacturers.

They may be made by the same manufacturers but where globally are they being made? and at what quality?

I run AC Delco because I own a Chevy. My wife runs Motorcraft because she owns a Ferd.

I use Wix on my Toyota because the filter mounts upside down and I know (cut one open) that the Wix has a anti-drainback valve in it, where the Fram did not.

As far as running a Walmart exclusive filter, I don't think it's worth it for the convenience and $1.00 savings over having to run to the parts store.

Would you buy bearings or rings from Walmart? Then why buy the very thing that protects them from there?

And yes I'm still pi$$ed about Screamin's tailgate.

guess i'm just plain stupid ,i've been using fram oil filters over 40years maybe 2-3million miles and have never had an oilrelated failure. of course ii monitor my gauges constantly and don't rely on "lab tests" to tell me to shut it down b-4 the engine starts a knockin

I go with Wix filters for all my rides. I just make sure to fill them before installation. about 20 years here with not a problem.
