Shifter boot - lip under carpet?
Should the shifter boot be against the body and then the carpet on top of the lip or do you just install the boot on top of the carpet. Seems having the lip under the carpet would be better.

I think it would be your preference. I think in carpeted Trucks the boot is screwed down on top of the carpet. I would think it would make it difficult to remove the boot (if you for some reason had too) without going to the extent of removing the carpet. I guess it depends on how tight or snug you cut the carpet to fit over the boot. Just a thought...maybe some one that has a carpeted truck will chime in here for ya.

We put ours on top of the carpet and the rubber mats. I suppose the boot could be put under the carpet. The hole would have to be trimmed very carefully and getting the screws to line up with the layers of material could be tricky.
The boot is covered up by the trim plate so you cannot see the edges. Here is a pic. Jim Last edited by JimKshortstep4x4; 04-02-2005 at 09:01 PM. |

went through that too
We went through that last fall. I was worried about moisture wicking into carpet. It is a booger getting holes to line out from trim ring, boot, carpet and holes already in hump.
