Tach wire routing
I've installed a new tach dash and have a new tach wiring harness with the firewall grommet included. My questions is: which hole in the firewall did the factory originally route the tach wire through?

Mine is through the top hole, the one with the wire, the lower one is for the speedometer cable. Between the steering column and the main wiring harness connector.

There was a previous thread about this, but searching is disabled, so I can't find it. You need to drill a 3/4" hole right next to the square fuse panel connector. There is a vertical row of small dimples next to the fuse connector. The 3/4" hole gets drilled in the dimple that is at the same height as the fuse connector. You will notice that there are round punch-outs in the firewall insulation inside your cab that line up with the dimples.

pjmoreland has described the location very well but just in case here is a picture of a factory tach wire hole on a 72 firewall. I am not sure if the older trucks were the same. You can see the dimples that he mentioned.
