I want to do a disc brake swap I plan on bolting in a 73+ crossmember My truck has trailing arms will a 73+ 5 lug just bolt in or am I going to need to get mounts made on it so I can stick it in

71-72 axle shafts should swap out. I think the 73+ is longer by an inch or two on each side.

I planned On dropping in the Whole rear end since I can most likely get a good one for less then the cost of axles themselves

It won't bolt in.

Your trailing arm rear has different mount saddles than the 73 and newer rears do. There were never any trailing arm rear trucks built after 72. You'll need to put the proper axle saddles on AND figure out some way to mount the panhard bar to the newer rear end. If you'll look at your trucks rear, you will see a big stud sticking out of the rear end that the panhard bolts onto. The 73 and newer rear don't have that.

Thats what I figured So my options are buy a kit for 300 some odd dollars or get 73+ shafts and have them shortened or re drill my stock ones and use the later brakes

Or swap out the entire rearend

what year is the truck, what is your location I know a guy that has a set of 5 lug axles that where made to work with the 67-70 rearend and I think the is a guy on the board 67-72 board that has some 71-72 rear ends.

Bryce, what year is your truck? 1970 rear axles are the same as 1971 and up. If your truck is a 1970, just swap axle shafts!

72 five lug axles are too long they are the same lenght as 73 to 87 axles

70' was the year they started putting the longer axles in trucks. Some of the 70' trucks do have the shorter axles. I don't remember the length of either of these though.

ReKindlin' this post....

Can one measure the tube length between the drum....and the pumpkin??? Would that tell you if the longer axles will work or not???
I have a 70....dont know if it's the early or late 70 though.
