Distributor clearance?
Does anyone out there have a clearance problem with the distributor vs firewall? I have a 350 with an HEI GM distributor. It sits very tight up against the firewall. I've been told that new aftermarket engine mounts might be "fat" enough to pull it up, but haven't tried it. I am almost ready to change distributors to a smaller style, or maybe dual point??

I have my 383 mounted in on 6/250 stands also. the dist is tight,but does not hit the firewall. If you want a small cap dist,Msd puts out a nice electronic with its own amplifiyer.... http://www.msdignition.com/

That's the one I had in mind, about $200.00 from the speed shops. Not too hateful. Maybe after I finish the 1/2 ton conversion. Can't go all out all at once... unfortunately my wife insists that we need electricity just as much as my truck needs toys! Crazy I know.

Yup, the wives have the priorities all screwed up! Hotrods first !!!! Mine has been a long time project.....not painted yet, but one different old longhorn! The top is chopped 4" ,body dropped 1 1/2" ,suspension drop 3/5,rollin on 1/2 ton pcs,1 pc steel tilt clip,383 stroker/edelbrock top(everthing but the cam),has a comp Xe268,400T /TCI verter,12 bolt posi /4.10 richmond coggs........Ive got blood in this one! .....69 longhorn.

Longhorn-
Mine has had plenty of my blood also. I think it's something in the maintenance schedule! After 4 years, I have brought mine back to "head turner" status. It started as an old farm truck. I took everything off, peeled off the house paint and started welding! The six was trashed so I dropped in a small block 350, 294 Comp Cam, Weiand Tarantula high rise, Holley 750( Overkill I know), and a set of 94 heads. New wood for the step side bed and some headers. Got pinched for time and had to re-assemble earlier than I wanted, so the body is not as smooth as I was going for initially. Painted it gloss black to show the flaws, and put her down on Craigar Nomads with centers. When I get that wicked gear out, it should come together. It's never really over though...it just gets more expensive. HaHa Thanks for the exhaust advise too. ------------------

Yea, its tough at times,when you really get into a project,I wonder if its ever really done.......or just more upgrades ? I have been pickin with that longhorn since Dec of 1984......just a hobby,something to get away from the rat race......69
