The lead is there to lube the valves. Extensive govenment and fleet testing showed that normal use under 3000 RPM is not supposed to wear it too much. But then again, the military doesn't mind an engine only being good for 1000 hrs of use.
IMO, lead additives or lead substitutes are necisary if your heads have not been upgraded. And if they have been done, the lead won't hurt. The only thing lead will hurt is oxygen sensors and catilitic converters. Chances are, your 305 has not been done. They don't get torn down muvh becouse they are indestrucable. |
