Drive Shaft Lenght - info request
I need some info...
I would like someone to measure there drive shaft if they have the following configuration: C-10 Short bed w/coils, 12bolt rear end, 350 engine in front most position and 700R4 trans using stock crossmember. Stock (non-lowered) suspension. -OR- at least confirm this for me: I have measured the distance from the seal on the 700R4 to the center of the u-joint clamp on the differential yoke and that measured 59-1/4". This is the measurement of just the chassis with engine/trans mounted so the suspension is pretty much at its most extended position...how much shorter does the drive shaft need to be shorted for, when the rest of the body is placed on the chassis? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!!!!

Can you put weight on the frame, say,a couple hundred pounds or more? You should install the yoke on the trans to get your number.

Contact whatever driveshaft shop you plan on using and ask them how they want it measured. Mine wanted distance from seal to center of carrier bearing.

Take a look at this link:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=146217 I have a 72 2WD SWB Coil 350ci (forward mounted), stock suspension height truck with a 700R4 transmission. The length of my driveshaft is 56 1/4 measured from the center of the front u-joint to the center of the rear u-joint. I took the measurement with the yoke slid out of the transmission 3/4". |
