Aftermarket speedo in a '79?

Has anybody put an aftermarket speedometer in place of the stocker in a '79 or similar dash? Mine lost its mind a while back, & I'm thinking of using something from Auto Meter. I have not had the instrument panel off yet, so I don't really know what I'm getting into, so any advice as to size, cable availability, etc., would be appreciated.

A lot of people, myself included, change out the stocker with a 5" Autometer speedo. Pretty simple installation. Cable length will vary. I think, I'm using a 65" or so and it is barely long enough. Lokar makes a cable that you can cut to length. I may go back and re-do my set up using the Lokar cable.

My son replaced his in his 80, he used a longer cable that is availible at checker/kragan but it has to be for a 67 c-10 since it has the screw on connection instead of the clip on. I think he paid $20 for it.

I am using a 5" Pro-Comp Autometer in mine. I used a speedo about 65" long or so. I used one that has the correct ends on both. Depending on what gauge you use the ends will vary for what you need.
