Does anyone know where to get those fine threaded bolts that hold the doors on? Been to a couple of big hardware shops and they are telling me they dont make them any more. I'm sure I could find them in a boneyard but want new ones.. One guy told me to tap the door for course threads but that seems a little ghetto... whatchyall think?

92620A656

It's a 3/8-24 bolt that is 1-1/4" long. There's no washer attached to it, but I'm pretty sure this is the size. You should probably measure one of the bolts you have to be sure.

yea but if you goto the dealer be sure to take a tube of Ky with you. In desperation I went to the dealer once for flywheel bolts and boy did I get the shaft on cost.

Thanks for the response guys... I will try the dealer down the road and if they want too much I might hit you up Randy70c10. I only need 3 to hang my door but would like to replace all of them new since I'm about ready to paint. Haha luckily I already got some ky but would like to save it for the bimmer parts..lol

Also if your dealer parts man is like mine, take a part number. If I even mention 67-72 truck he shakes his head and says "oh no we don't have anything for those". If I give him a part # and not tell him what its for, more than like he can get the part.
Then comes the KY part

You can't find fine threaded sae bolts? Can't remember, -3/8" or 7/16"? Did they stop making CocaCola? grade 8's best but 5's will be fine. I can get them/NOT from a dealer. My sister lost a headrest from a 92 Pathfinder (another story), --She was told at the dealer -$225. I found some for sale on ebay. $17.50 with shipping -Black leather -like hers/new. She was ready to give in and plunk down the $$$.

They stopped putting coke in it. I am anal (no pun intended with all of the ky talk) and want the original style bolts..

Red -- I just grabbed 6 from the local "pull and save" junkyard. They still have 2 or 3 '67-72's that have the doors on but not much else. PM me and I'll go get ya whatever ya need, only takes 10 minutes.

Yeah thats what I thought, but talked to this dude who owns Completely Nuts in gladstone and said they dont.. I think your right though they got everything.. I will check it out.. if they dont I might take up one of these fine gentlemen on there offers. Thanks for your help everyone!!

Damn, all these years I've been carrying that big tub of Vaseline with me when I go to the dealers, I should have been using KY, does it hurt less ?

Stick with good condition factory bolts (used, in need be). Their captive washers are worth staying with the factory bolts for ease of installation. I think I can safely say that the factory used fine threads to get a lot of thread purchase in the short distance (3/8") available within the hinge bolt captive plates. Course bolts would loosen and strip easily since only a few threads would have had purchase.
