Wood bed floor - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I took the wood out of my bed. It's crap, and I need to replace it. I have a friend that can cut the wood, and make me a new floor. Now, what do the grooves in the wood look like? The top image or the bottom? It looks like the bottom but the wood I removed is so worn and old, I can't tell. The pictures are looking at the end of the boards.

There is a firm in Oklahoma City that provides complete kits of bed material already grooved, holes bored and washers countersunk. They have finished oak and maybe pine(?). I ordered oak, touched up with 300 plus grit sand paper, used 3 coats of Pettit marine varnish (best for weather) and used polished stainless strips and fastners! Absolutely looks fantastic! Think the firm is MAR-K. If interested someone else may help you with exact name and contact information.

Thanks Orange for the information, but I think I would like to be involved in cutting or finishing or something with the wood. That's kinda the way it's been on this entire 1970 GMC project. When someone asks, I can say I did it myself (or at least had a hand in it).

Speaking from experience here, if your metal strips are not GM, be sure to measure the width and depth of them before you use those measurements. I just grooved mine using GMC Paul's measurements, and my new aftermaket strips wouldn't fit. My strips were narrower and not as deep. Nothing that can't be fixed, but measuring my strips first would have saved me some work.

Thanks Hugger but as far as I know my strips are GM. I got some off of Evelbay and they were just like the old decrepid ones I took off. The ones I bought were painted blue (in other words used).
