94-96 Impala SS Rear axle
has anyone ever thought of using one? If it is the correct width. you have limited slip(i think) and disc brakes all with 5 on 5 bolt pattern. for that matter just about any caprice cop car rear axle would work as long as it had the 9c1 (police) package. just remove the impala mounting brackets and weld on some saddles from early classic.

I had a 95 ss about 2 years ago and put air bags on it. I still have the stock springs and shocks if anyone is interested.

Sure...will the springs fit my truck? Are they coiled on both ends? Where are you located?

To be honest, I will have to dig them out of the attack in the garage to see is if they are coiled at both ends, but I will check it out tomorrow. I am in Missouri. If you want them, 20 bucs plus shipping. let me know

96 Impala SS axle width is 62.91 inches the ratio is 3:08 it is limited slip (posi traction) with disc brakes it has sway bar also. I believe some of the police packages have discs without limited slip. Police package with disc and limited slip codes 2LZ and 2LX also two ratios 3:08 and 3:23.

Another dumb question - what is the measurement on a stock axle?

The measurement is from outside surface of one axle wheel mounting flange to the outside surface of the other. The measurement on my short stepside is 60.85 inches from outside surface of flange to flange. The fleetside trucks will be a little wider.

another killer rear axle for you 2wd guys is a SS454 truck, it doesnt have disc brakes but it is a 14 bolt semi-floater with 5 lug and takes very little modification to bolt into a 67-72 leaf spring 2wd. they came stock with 3.73s and limited slip too.
