Body Lift Tutorial.
I have done some searching around but yielded nothing so far. I am sure I could probably figure it out given enough time ; But I am using a buddy's,dad's shop with a lift and I only have a matter of hours to do both the body and suspension lift. I'd like to get it all done in one shot so being familiar would help a lot. The concept is simple but the different bolt locations and details well...aren't so obvious. If any of you guys have a link or something it would be much appreciated.

Nevermind. Found what I was looking for and it is a day's job in itself from what I can tell.

For a body lift and a suspension lift I think you are looking at two days. I may just be getting old tho.

I`d approach it in two phases, one lift at a time.Mudder67 IS OLD(chuckle?)but experience makes up(feel better?)for that.Even us yungins can hit some "tough nuts" and "monkey-wrenches".Take your time and be thorough,it`ll be less frustrating.Forget the "Discovery Channel" approach.I`m sure your buddy`s Dad will understand if one of your phases runs over as long as you`re going at it.Have fun.

LOL @ DIscovery Channel approach. I am RENTING the lift by the hour so you can understand my haste.
One thing I don't miss about old trucks is the stubborn fasteners. Now that I understand the jobs I am undertaking it is definitely being done in two phases. I am really lookng forward to the suspension lift though. It's kinda like getting a girl in the sack for the first time in a sick gearhead sorta way. But now I am itchy to get 38's...what size wheel should I have to support them? it has aftermarkets on it now but I am not sure of the size. |

at least 10" wheels and dont forget, when you come across a bolt that doesnt want to let go... there are few problems in life that cant be corrected with the proper application of high explosives

The lift should have u-bolts so cut the old ones off. Also go get 9/16" grade 8 bolts(2ea) and 4 ea 7/16" grade 8 bolts all 5 inches long w/ nuts washers and burn those off also. Only use a wrench to but the new fastners in. Now your off the lift, take it home and work on removing the steering arm, go ahead and replace the drag link ends also, they probably need it anyway.
You could have the old front springs off and new ones on in less than 2 hrs. if lift time is what your worried about. brake lines and the steering arm can be done off the lift.

Thankfully it comes with all of the hardware so this was an excellent tip.
Thanks Jim. |
