98 z71 differential problems

I have a 98 z71 and when I grab the driver side axle and shake it I can see the axle that slides into the differential move up and down. The haynes manual says I need to take it to a dealership b/c it requires a special tool. Anyone ever replaced this bearing? If so how hard is it, how do I do it, how much will this cost me, and are there any special tools I need?

Bearing puller or what I use is a slide hammer with an attachment just for the semi float bearings.
