so i bought another truck... PICS ADDED
this one will serve a bit different fate than any other truck i've ever owned.
for those of you who saw the post on my 9C1 Caprice i bought almost 2 weeks ago, i have since stripped the LT1 out of it, and discovered a bent frame that was previously hidden by the inner fender. with it being bent where it is, its too risky on my drivetrain to try to derby it. its bent right behind the front suspension, so either my motor mounts will break loose, or my driveshaft would spear my trans. either way, not good. its going to the crusher this weekend or early next week. i purchased a '73 C20 today for $75 with no motor and no trans. the body is pretty beat, but strong where it needs to be. pics will follow once i get it home. parts will be available, but only small things. glass should all come out fine, wiring harnesses if they're good, under dash goodies. interior looks pretty trashed. the only thing i'll really need would be all of the body a brake and steering system. the engine will be wired by me (3 wire setup) Last edited by 1FaastC10; 07-04-2005 at 04:56 PM. |

yes, it will be derbied. the last couple years our local fair has been running a truck heat, and most of the people who enter are friends of mine. should make things interesting. |

if it is beat to hell already then kill it properly
As long as the engine/tranny survive then we wont be too mad

engine and trans are actually scabbed from other projects. the engine is the 114k 305 that i pulled from my 86 when i decided to go 4x4 with it, and the trans is from another truck that a buddy and i parted out a while ago.

pics as promised... its a little rougher than i thought, but i've located an 88-98 bed for it for free, so all should be good. the front clip is rock solid, VERY rare for a truck around here.

doing a bit of work on it again today. i stripped one of the bedsides off yesterday. its easier removing it piece by piece as im working by myself. and well... the pieces arent held together very well. can you say extensive rust?
and although its against everything i stand for, the bed will be replaced with another from an 88-98 truck. unlike my other bed, this one is rock solid other than the fender lip rust. Last edited by 1FaastC10; 07-04-2005 at 04:55 PM. |

the bed is completely off. after prying the 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood from the remains of the bed floor, i didnt even have to unbolt the bed floor, just picked it up, and threw it aside.

BTW, with a truck like that finding a safe parking spot would be no problem. I used to have a truck just about the same. for some strange reason people stayed out of my way

here's a pic of my newly improved interior. the 4x4 in the floorboard is where the crush bar will come through the floor, along with another in the cab corner. i'll be installing a single bucket seat from the Caprice i just junked.

and i dont think parking spaces will be a problem, since the only vehicles its going to be around will be ones it is hitting, or getting hit by.
