Speedometer cable ?
How do i get the speedometer cable to stay attached to the speedometer on my dash? After taking it out yesterday, it will only stay on for a few minutes, and the speedometer will bounce around alot. It is a '72, and the cable seems to just slip on and off of the speedometer. No threads on the cable or speedometer. Thanks for the help!

Thats what i thought too. I got a dash for it out of a '69 truck and the speedometer cable and speedometer were threaded. I tried to put my cable on it, but it was too small and wouldn't work. I put my '72 speedometer back in it, and now i can't get it to stay on.

I found out that there is some kind of a snap ring inside of the cable, where it goes on to the speedometer. All i had to do was push on it a little harder. I now have a working speedometer .

That's correct after 71 they went to the snap on speed odometer, you just have to push a little harder to make it snap on. I hope you put some lube of some kind on before reinstalling it. They make a lube just for speed odometers. Just thinking out loud.
