Laying frame on a 67

OK, I plan on laying frame on my 67 (rocker after it gets bodydropped). In the front is anything required beyond an x-member drop (and the ART front setup)? In the back, will the factory arms get me low enough, or am I going to a four link? Maybe not clear, but bags are also in the equation.

To my knowledge you will need drop spindles no matter what A-arms you go with, as for the stock trailing arms they will work you will just need 3" drop blocks due to the fact that the trailing arms stretch outside the frame. Dont forget unless you plan on body dropping your truck 8 inches you will need to notch the back as well.

I hope DM doesnt mind but here is a pic of his back set up basically showing what needs to be done in back. Most people do not mount the bags that far forward, but you cant mount your bags any where from where he did all the way back to behind the axel.

I would spend a few extra bucks and buy a 4 link. I have the 2 link on my truck and I wish I did a 4 link. The bigger the tire the more stuff you will need to cut. Also if you are running a large tire and laying frame your wheel will not be centered in your wheel well! With a 4 link it will!

Im not sure if 3" blocks would be safe but I think it depends on the size of rim your going to run.

Reason is that incase of a flat tire with 15" trough I think 18" rim's, the lowest part of the axle is the U-bolts which would drag and could cause you to loose control of the vehicle due to the fact that the truck is dragging the U-bolts and not running on the flat tire and rim. I personally would compare it to adding your hand brake at highway speeds. Maybe im exsagerated but still crusing.

There for extensive amounts of damage could occure to the truck.lol

hey, you dont need to run 3" blocks. I lay body with no body drop, a 4" z up front with 3" spindles, notched UCA on drivers side, and a 10" step notch out back with the bags mounted about 8" ahead of the original coil perches, and i could lay out on a 24" back rim. I also have a watts link out back, which helps. If you want me to go into more detail, PM me in what area and ill help you out all i can.

is a body drop required on the 67-72s to get the body below the frame? i'm kinda deployed right now, can't run outside and look at my truck right now. also anyone have pics of what they did to the rear, other than stock?

Yes. Since the body and frame are irrevocably tied together, the only way to get the body lower than the frame is to change how they connect-- body drop, thin out the bottom of the frame channels, or something similar.

SWEETNESS! what all did you do to get it that low? i'm basically starting from scratch, none of my POs have done anything besides heat the springs on the shortbed frame i will be using.

I am also kinda curious how you got that low with out a body drop or Z?

Did you happen to do anything similar to this? Cause if so you could lay out on just about anything.

wouldn't you run into some serious clearance issues with that much of a notch in the front? you could almost lay out on 33s with that!

I "z"ed the front 3 1/4 and 3 in drop spindles. Im running a 78 front crossmember and arms. No Body drop, its right around a 1/4 in from laying pinch. I made my own notch and a few other odds and ends

Ive got a 10" notch that extends forward to clear the trailing arms, bags mounted about 8-10" ahead of original spring perches. sorry for the crappy pics, only pics i have of it right now from my phone.

Has anyone addressed the front centerline location with their frame Z's? I'd be interested to see pics/read details on what you did. The standard rear set that takes place when you lower (since they're being lowered at the KPI) drives me nuts, and my truck is no exception to this problem.
