takin' the bed off
OMG. I tried to take the bed off the 66 today, EVERY SINGLE nut was rusted to the bolt. I had to cut every single bolt that held the crossmembers on the bed, and I'm cutting the bolts that hold the bed on the frame, with a hacksaw. All, what, 8 of them?

Yeah, I'm sure I'll laugh later, but it wasn't funny 15 minutes ago.

Hey 66+81,
I feel your pain, I had the same problem on my old long bed. I just grabbed the water hose and used the torch to cut all the bolts. Mind you the wood in the floor was shot so I could care less what happend to it. I only caught it on fire about 4 times :P Keith |

I believe I used bolt cutters on those as well.
I"m having trouble with the upper rear coil spring retainer bolt on mine. Sawzall, air chizel, etc. and its still hanging on, not to mention its pretty hard to get to. It's the only part left on the frame and it will NOT let go. It's mocking me I tell you. |

I had all the same ideas, but my trucks are in a 40 year old tool shed with no tires, and seeing as the 66 doesn't run, I can grind them. The bolt cutters I have aren't near big enough to cut the huge bolts holding my bed on. I'll tell you, whoever bolted that thing on wasn't planning on ever taking it off. lol

with the old 77, probably not as rusted as your bolts i welded the heads to the steel floor since they were spinning up top, and used a can or so of rust eater (pb blaster). still took a big half inch ratchet and longer handle extension.
