vehicle: '72 straight 6, 3 on the tree;

Issue: My clutch pedal "sits" high - to disengage, I have to lift leg high and pressure is there, all the way through depression. As soon as pedal starts to move, there is a sound similiar to a vacuum leak (it's not that) I believe there is (something dragging on the pressure plate?) that should be disengaging, but it is not doing so. The truck shifts fine through the gears but when using the clutch, there is the noise. The few minutes I had last night, I shortened the length of the rod to the tranny shifting paddle. The pedal was much "looser" with resistance coming near the end of the stroke. The noise was reduced but still there. At this new setting, as soon as the clutch was being released, it was grabbing immediately and wanted to lurch forward. The original setting of the rod was almost at the end.

Question 1 (of many I'm sure): Do I have an issue in the clutch/pressure plate area or is this a linkage adjustment and if so, is there a way to properly set it?

sounds like the wrong throwout bearing to me. There are two styles, a long one and a short one. I think you may have the short one in and the linkage has to be adjusted all the way out to get it to release.

Assuming the truck hasn't been touched (mechanically) in about 8 years, has about 40k on it since it MIGHT have been touched (I know the PO) The length of the bearing is the contributing factor to the pedal issue? If it has been improperly set all this time, what am I looking at for "worn/destroyed" parts? The PO has driven it alot the last several years and I'm inclinded to think if it was always making the sound, he'd of had to address it. Along those lines, I take it that either bearing can be installed but the linkage has to be adjusted accordingly? Thanks for being patient!

looking at it tonight - any other ideas or areas to check? How about the proper procedure to adjust the clutch linkage?

Well, I backed the linkage all the way off - noise still there - I'm posting this one last time (to get back up to the top) to see if anyone has anything idea wise????? Was hoping for a little insight before I actually tear it apart......
