Well, I'm trying to tackle replacing my center support bearing today, and I've run into a problem.
How do I deal with a stubborn U-Joint? I've got a larger socket on one side of the joint, and a smaller socket on the other side, trying to push the joint appart, but it's not budging!! YES, I did remove the clips! lol. I was thinking of drenching the joint in WD40 for now, and then seeing if it will move. I would grease it back up before using so, would this work? The U-Joints on my truck are the ones with the clip at the 4 ends, so is there an alternative to removing this sucker? So far there has suprisingly been no problems, until now. Also, the center support bearing failed because the bearing itself seized!! It was rock solid with rust, so of course the soft rubber tore apart, and then the metal support cracked off on one side.

UPDATE:
Had to use the WD40, there was no other way!! lol I have the joint apart now, but I have even bigger problems. The inner bearing race is still attached to the drive shaft, and I'm having a hell of a time getting it off! I smashed the rest of the bearing off with a wrench! This sucks!

ANOTHER UPDATE:
Nevermind folks, I'm done! I pounded that some b#tch bearing race off with a hammer and chisel (for lack of a better word - not a wood chisel, but one of the thick ones made for cutting bolts etc.) Must have been a cheap chisel, as after three strikes, I was digging a piece of chisel tip out of my leg!! Cut my head on the spare tire support (under box) and I don't know if the clips on the U-Joint are on well enough, but I don't care at this point! haha. When I go to test it though, I will make sure to have a motorcycle helmet on!!! ![]() Thanks to new69owner for supplying me with a mini walkthrough, but I forgot to print it when actually doing the job! DOH! Thanks though man!

Bummer about your leg, but next time you do this, it's a good idea to replace all 3 U-joints and carrier bearing at the smae time.

Funny, as I was thinking of doing that, but in the end I just wanted to get it done! I had a ton of things to do, but was feeling guilty about the truck, so did it first.
I took the truck out for a spin around the block, and it runs great!! No helmet needed, hahahaha! ![]() Sounds a lot better than CLUNK-CLUNK-GRIND-CLUNK!!
