'64 C10 gauges

Does anyone know what is the voltage that runs the guages on a 1964 C10 Chevy pickup. Do they get a full 12 volts, or is (should) there be a resister of some type that drops teh volts to a lesser amount?

The reason i ask, the amp guage pegs out at times as well as the temp guage when the engine is not hot. A friend said the thought there should be some type of resister on the system.
