Dieseling

You know the deal. When you turn the ignition off, the engine continues to run for a few seconds under "diesel" power, where the compression alone fires rather than a spark. Does anyone know a remedy for that? It's a 305 with a reman Q-jet. It's got the F-body heads (the engine came out of an F-body), which I understand have smaller combustion chambers.

Re: Dieseling

timing is usually what causes this to happen in my journeys with it as far as the motor you mentioned i have no idea if that has anything to do with it.

Re: Dieseling

That could be it. I've had issues with the timing returning to too advanced even after retarding it.

Re: Dieseling

What about overheating? I had my truck overheat and it did this for a while.

Re: Dieseling

It never overheated to my knowledge. I've had it for about one and a half years with no cooling issues.

Re: Dieseling

Too high of idle speed will cause this too.
