Crooked Bed or Mis-Aligned Frame???

I was sitting out by the truck today with a friend of mine and he told me my bed was on the truck crooked. I got to looking and sure enough the bed is not on the truck straight. It's closer to the cab on one side than it is on the other. I know that it was taken off before I got it, because it was painted. My question is, when you remove and replace the bed on a truck, is there any adjustability in it so that you can square up the bed with the cab? Thanks.

Re: Crooked Bed

Yes there is some adjustment but not much.

Re: Crooked Bed

Adjustment can be made larger with the right Ford tools, if needed. elongation of the holes and spacers can be added and removed.

Re: Crooked Bed

Ok, thanks very much. The difference from one side to the other is not very much, maybe one finger width or slightly more. Is there that much adjustment built in, you think?

Re: Crooked Bed

In most cases, unless the frame has been tweaked in an accident. Take a long string and stretech it tight from the front to the back and move the bed until both sides match. Then stand at the back and "Line of Sight" it to see if you are happy. I have had truck beds off of many trucks and I am picky on line up of body lines.

Re: Crooked Bed

The gap from bed to cab should be even all the way down. If its wider at the bottom and your body lines are at the same hight its your frame missalined. If your cab is lower than the body line on the bed its cab mounts

The bed is the same distance to the cab from top to bottom, no problem there, however it's closer to the cab on the drivers side than it is the passenger side by about 1/2 inch or so. If I could move the pax side forward by 1/4 inch and pull the drivers side back by the same amount, it would be just about perfect. I just didn't know if there was any adjustability in the mounting bolts that would allow me to move it around a little bit to correct for the difference.

I was checking this bed alignment problem in more detail today using some of the methods some of you recommend and while looking at the bed real close, I noticed that the right rear corner of the bed (pax side) is higher than the left side. I hadn't noticed this before because I had the truck parked in the yard and my yard ain't exactly level. On closer inspection, however, it is definitely higher at the right back corner. When I saw this, I started to get a real sick feeling inside, fearing that what I was seeing was a bent or mis-aligned frame. The bed doesn't have spacers under it, it's just bolted down, so it couldn't be a spacer problem. I just couldn't look at it and tell if it was bent, but this could possibly account for the spacing difference at the back of the cab that I was originally asking about. If it does turn out to be a bent or mis-aligned frame, is this something that could be repaired and brought back into "proper" alignment? Help me out here boys and tell me what to do.
