Chevy Trucks: Differences between years.
Good morning. I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find any answers. I have a short list of questions...
- In general, what were the major/minor - and/or - cosmetic/mechanical differences between all Chevy trucks between '67 & '72? - Specifically, what are the major/minor cosmetic/mechanical differences between the '67 & the '68 model years? - Are there any books or online references that I could read up on to answer these questions? Thanks in advance...

Re: Chevy Trucks: Differences between years.
67 - No side markers, same hood and grill as 68
68 - has side markers 69 - has side markers, bowtie on front of hood, different grill, fenders, radiator support, and hood as the 67/68 models 70 - same as 69 for the most part 71 - has side markers, bowtie in grill, no bowtie on the hood, same fenders, radiator support, as the 69/70 models 72 - same as a 71 for the most part GMC - a little bit different, someone else chime in please

Re: Chevy Trucks: Differences between years.
LUV2XCLR8 summed it well....A couple more differences I can think of:
1967: last year of small back window and last year for 283 V8 1969 -: got a foot operated park brake as opposed to a hand brake. 1971 & 72:disc brakes!!! GMC have the same mechanical differences as the above mentioned with the exception that GMC used a V6.....what cu. in.?? Im not sure. Also dont know whether GMC offered inline 6 at the same time. Also, most GMC trucks youll see have leaf springs in rear whereas Chevy used coils. 1967 GMC has "GMC" stamped in center of the grill....1968-72 "GMC" letters moved to the hood.

Re: Chevy Trucks: Differences between years.
Thanks Fatback and LUV2XCLR8...
I thought there would be more differences. Trim levels/layout, differences in the dash, etc. I'm kind of surprised that so much would stay the same for those six years. Anyway, can anyone answer my last question from my original post? - Are there any books I could buy or online references that I could read that you would recommend for learning all there is to know about the 67-72 Chevy Trucks??? Thanks!

Re: Chevy Trucks: Differences between years.
I know that 72 is the only year with a rearview mirror attached to the windshield not the roof. I think 70 was the first year they didn't have a manual choke, someone would have to verify this. I know the 4x4's have a lot of diferences in rear and front ends transfer case etc. A buddy of mine told me np205 didn't come out till 70 but i need someone to verify this as I have a parts truck that is a 69 k20 that i'd like to build to a 72. You might grab a parts catalog to see some of the trim differences year to year, There were a lot of combinations and options. Guages, seats, exterior trim, interior trim....I haven't found a good book that explains all this but i need one too.

Re: Chevy Trucks: Differences between years.
One big cosmetic differnce I always notice . The earlier trucks had a hood that was more slopeing . The later year trucks the front of the hood was closer to a 90 degree angle. Taller and wider in the front and less aerodynamic looking. Look at a pic of a 67 / 68 next to a 71 / 72 and although the trucks are very similar. The differnce in the front sheetmetal is quite striking.

Re: Chevy Trucks: Differences between years.
'69 has a silver-colored plastic inner grille. Early in '70 GM used up all the silver and started using black instead.
For '70 all the sidemarkers had lamps (was optional in '69), Fed. requirement. 71 and 72 grille differ in the paint around the outer edge of the grille. '71 has it, '72 doesn't.
