6 to 5 bolt question
I know, its been asked a million times but I cant find it on a search. If I convert my 6 bolt axle (1969)to 5 bolt what are my options besides a complete different rear axle. I heard the 6 bolts are narrower maybe? Send the axles & have them redrilled? Anything easier?

Re: 6 to 5 bolt question
I have been told by a few people that mid 1970 was the year they widened the rear housing, so your 69 will not work with 71 and up axles. You might be able to get the axles redrilled but I would buy another rear. They can't be hard to find, there are tons of these trucks all over the place. Too bad we weren't a little closer...I would sell you a complete driving 71 for $300 bucks.

Re: 6 to 5 bolt question
1967 thru mid year 70 requires 1/2" spacing behind the backing plates & also you must use the late 70 thru 72 brakes & drums. Check the build date on your rear, (man, that sounds personnel), to see if you have the wider one. The wider ones are 3/4" longer than the late 70's. This is assuming that you still have the original 12 bolt rear on the truck. This is what I've read on here a while back. I'm still thinking on doing the swap myself......

Re: 6 to 5 bolt question
I converted my 67 rear to 5 lug using the kit from early classic. The link Hart_Rob posted is it. Nice quality axels, and reasonably priced, IMO.

Do any of you know the length of those axles?
