Re: chalet camper for sale on craigslist.org

For someone looking to try one on for size that is a very reasonable price tag.
I believe mine set me back $3500 to begin with and more than that over the years to improve upon things a bit like TBI and a NP205. The best money spent on these rigs and pretty much a necessity is a rear sway bar and rear airbags. Without this they are little monsters to drive long distance. I put 800 miles on mine a couple three times a month from colorado to wyomings oilfields and back. When you install the rear sway bar make sure the bar is level with the rear spring pack....then since nobody makes a long enough link for the sway bar buy two sections of 12" 3/8x16 NC allthread and make your own link to correct length. You will have to purchase another link kit to have enough sleeve material to get it right but its well worth the extra $30 you'll spend to correct her driving habits. I have completely rebuilt the entire drivetrain and suspension on mine since i put a lot of miles on her. The tbi swap was also another golden improvement. I get close to 12mpg out of my brick on wheels when i keep my foot out of it....lol. Sometimes i have to work out of my camper here in the oilfield since there is not allways enough living space for all of us and she sure comes in handy. I also got tired of the stock sound system and installed a bass tube under the right rear seat in camper...a new cd-mp3 deck and some nice polk audio speakers...so i won't loose my marbles driving long distance. All in all with a few improvements they are very solid rigs with the added 4wd function they can go places you would swear impossable...however i'm not condoneing that....hehehe.

Once i learn to post pics i'll have to start showing everyone what a chalet is all about.
