How do I adjust the wiper arm?

1983 K20.

The passenger side wiper arm rests well under the bottom edge of the windshield when it is down all they way. Is there a way to adjust the travel so that it rests on the bottom of the windshield where it should be?

The driver's side wiper is fine.

Thanks,

Bud

Re: How do I adjust the wiper arm?

You take the wiper arm off of the post (That is grooved or splined) and move it one groove up and re-install it. Simple, especially if you have a wiper arm tool. I made one out of a piece of metal and it works well. The principal of the tool is to allow you the ease of rocking the arm splined part to sguare it up with the wiper post. It will then slide off and back on with ease. Snap-on sells them also.

You have to take off the wiper and reposition it on the stalk...thats it.

^^^Pierce beat me to it.

Re: How do I adjust the wiper arm?

Wiper arm tool, Does that help with the overly tight spring that is a mpita? I need something that will keep the arm strait so I can better position the arm. I got it close enough but not where I want it. Got tired of messing with the wiper arm after about an hour it was like splitting hairs.

Re: How do I adjust the wiper arm?

Thanks for the replies.

I guess that I have to go hunt up this "wiper arm tool."

Man, I hate buying a tool for a one-time job. Maybe I can find a shop that will let me borrow theirs...

A very small screwdriver will work as well.

Re: How do I adjust the wiper arm?

I bought a Lisle wiper arm removal tool from JC Whitney for $5.00. Worked great.

Re: How do I adjust the wiper arm?

Like I said, I made one out of metal and it worked until I could buy a Snap-on tool. Mine looked like a 3/4" wide by 3/4" bent hook. I simply hooked on the bottom back of the wiper piece and applied pressure downward on top of the wiper arm to allow for the spring loaded piec to straigthen up on the splined wiper post. The metal has to be fairly heavy to stand up to the force needed.
