hood not opening with latch

I've had this problem for a while now...

I've got an '89 suburban (but same hood at the '87 and earlier trucks) and when I pull the hood latch from inside, I head a click, but the hood does not pop open.

I have to make sure it's latched closed, then put a little wedge of wood (maybe a small 10-20 degree piece) in there, then pull the latch again.

It will then pop open.

I'm not sure if the spring is worn out or if there is another problem. I tried to adjust up the rubber stoppers on the side, but that didn't help.

Re: hood not opening with latch

Sounds as if your hood spring is shot or the actual hood piece of the latch assembly is dragging on the latch assembly that is on the radiator support frame.

Re: hood not opening with latch

perhaps the cable needs a bit of adjusting too, mine wouldnt open and i ended up cutting the cable, and replacing with new... with both cables i still have to hit the hook right in the middle then it will pop up.

Re: hood not opening with latch

Try oiling the latch, I had this problem when I bought my Burb and a little oil took care of it.

I agree, my '86 started doing this just last week, I removed the latch and cleaned it good, then put a llittle grease on it and it works like new.

Re: hood not opening with latch

ok, sometimes I wonder why I don't think of posting things here sooner...

I just shot some wd40 in the latch and then oiled it and it works great!!!

for about a year now I have either used a little wood wedge or hit the hood w/ my fist... now it opens great!!!

thanks for the help.
