Bowed tailgate repair
The tailgate on my pickup has bowed enough so that it won't stay closed...al that standing on it over the years
![]() Am I being naive if I think I can put it upside down on a couple of 4x4's, bounce a bit and straighten it out? Is there another way to approach this short of an autobody shop? Thanks! |

Re: Bowed tailgate repair
If that dont work you could run over it, use a BFH on it, or stand around a corner and wait for an unsuspection person to come by and whale on them with it..

Re: Bowed tailgate repair
If you have a porta power you could try something like this. Crummy weather this week so I am working on tailgates and any other part from the barn that looks like it could be patched. Hate to throw anything away!

Re: Bowed tailgate repair
Bill, I have used the two 4x4's in the driveway and then jacked up one front wheel of the truck and lowered it slowly onto the middle of the gate. A good floor jack can be controlled pretty well. I have straightend several gates this way. It is tooling you already have in your garage!

Re: Bowed tailgate repair
Looks like I'll have to try those ideas out on my tailgate. With the gate closed there's about a 1 1/2" gap right in the middle between the gate and the bed floor.
