Best way to move a Short Bed Bed ?

I am going tomorrow to pick up a 70 LWB truck and a bed from a 67 SWB.

What is the best way to load and carry this SWB bed?

Stand it up, flip it upside down, lean it in on the edgewith one edge sticking out?

I am not sure. Any other suggestions? Photos?

If you don't have a trailer, flip it upside down on the truck bed rails and tie it down real good.

I would flip it upside down, and clamp it with 4 C clamps. I don't care how tight you strap it down, there is a very good chance of it moving.

any chance of a couple of the stake pockets lining up? maybe you could put a couple of long stakes (broom sticks) to use as aligning pins?...just a thought.

only 2 would line up, that's not a bad idea to do in addition to straps or C clamps.

Hey, Your in Buda, well I'm driving down to Slaughter to pick up the 70 and then over to Mustang Ridge to pick up the SWB bed. I'll be somewhat in your neck of the woods.

Unfortunatly, the 70 LWB will be on the trailer. Like the ideas about the c clamps. I might go one better and drill holes put in bolts. I can always fill the holes later.

Also like the broom stick ideas.

I was thinking of a coupel of 2x4 and lay the bed on top of them. The strap the heck out of it.

I just made a 1000 mile trip from OK to MN with a SWB in the back of my 02 Dodge pickup shortbed. I put it in upsidedown and sideway, leaving one side sticking out the passenger side. I tied it down with two small strapps. It rode perfect and did not move or bounce.

Man, y'all people in Texas musta been watchin' when the convoys of trucks from Michigan and Illinois are driven to the border. When those people drive down I-30, on the way to Mexico, you'll see lots of "inventive" ways to attach "stuff" to the towed/towing vehicle.

Still, the picture that circulated on the 'net a few years ago ('00/'01) of the couple who loaded what looked like a half ton of plywood on top of their Escort in PA, while also carrying (or attempting to) the load of concrete mix in the back seat......man, talk about stupid car tricks.

If I were to haul a bed, I'd use something between the two upside-down beds. Using a stick, or pipe, and then strapping it down or using c-clamps, all sound good to keep it from moving around. I'd put something between the back of the cab and the upside-down bed, too. You wouldn't want it coming forward on you and dinging up the back of the cab and/or breaking the back glass if you were driving the vehicle that is hauling the bed.

Thew c-clamp works the best the straps are gonna allow it to move around..

I seen one just last night in his 84 Ford Ranger towing his 85 Ranger towing what looked to be a golf cart trailer. All three were piled up over the top of the cab/ rails with engines. It was a scary sight I think I could probably tear my pants into 1 inch wide strips and make more rope to tie stuff down with than what he had used.

Yeah, that's pretty close and truck is even closer. It's in a body shop at the corner of Felter Ln and Burleson Rd.

Hey, what's up with the 67Mach 1 handle? I've got a '70 and I know they only made them from 69-73 not counting the new models which really ought to be called Mach 2's....

Everything worked out fine today, I picked up the 70 LWB at about 10:00am and by noon I had the 67 SWB bed loaded up. Used 2X2 stakes in the front two holes, flipped the bed and dropped it onto the stakes, placed a 1X4 under the back edge of the bed and then used one c-clamp on each side worked great.

I have toured all over Austin today from Round rock to Manchack to Mustang Ridge, over to Pflugerville and then back to Round Rock. Now I've got to make a trip to the farm to drop it all off over near College station. FUN FUN FUN!

As far as the 67Mach1 goes.... I have a 67 Fastback project car, then I purchased a wrecked 69 Mach 1 that I am using for engine, transmission, seats, power stearing, brakes and rear end. SO..... I am making a 67 Mach 1. Its just my name on a few other sites... makes it easy to remember who I am.

Now, that's a nifty idea for a Mustang. I never joined MOCA but I have won a couple of awards at the MOCA shows in Austin. If you're out south again drop by the shop.
