tremic tko 500
im getting ready to start restoring my 71 stepside and i want a strong 5 speed and was just wondering if anyone here knows anything about putting a tremic tko 500 in a 71 chevy. you can mount the shifter in like 3 different places but i was just wondering where the shifter would come up through the floor board at. i like the power the tremic is suppose to be able to handle cause im hoping to get no less then 450 hp out of the engine. thanks alot

Do you have the tranny already? Contact www.keislerauto.com. They might be able to give you some helpful info.

Re: tremic tko 500
I have a TKO in my 71 shortbed stepside.
The middle shift location works great if you have a bench seat and the motor is mounted in the 6cyl location. You can use your 71 bellhousing and flywheel. You will need a clutch disc for a T-5 equipped mid 80's camaro application. The other issue is that the throwout bearing retainer on the TKO is 4.683 in. daimeter and the 71 truck bellhousing has a 5.125in.diameter hole for the throwout bearing retainer. It is really a good idea for long transmission and clutch life to have a spacer ring pressed on to the TKO bearing retainer to make up the difference from 4.683in. to 5.124in. I had mine made at a local machine shop. Last edited by Willy Prost; 01-25-2006 at 06:16 PM. |

Re: tremic tko 500
I am planning on getting one of these, because the gear ratios will be just about ideal for use with a Cummins 4BT (which I will be putting in at some point in the next year).
The whole setup should be running at peak efficiency at 71 mph - perfect! Last edited by cell; 01-25-2006 at 11:29 AM. |
