Used MC
I was cleaning up some parts I just got delivered to my door the otherday, and started to wonder, should I re-use the old MC that came with my booster, or use it as a core?
Are the parts you get at the store these days worth a damn.....can this be rebuilt? (is it worth it)....or do I have nothing to really worry about? Also, with the addition of pb....I think I should probably put in some new soft brake lines.....where can I get a set of steel braided lines.....and what do they cost?

Re: Used MC
Master cylinders are so inexpensive now days. I say if it's even crossed your mind, just get a rebuilt one. If you have any brake issues you can always rule out the master cylinder. Just be sure to bench bleed it before installation.

Re: Used MC
agree -- if any doubt -- use it as a core for a rebuilt one --- Flat file the top of the newly rebuilt MC one in a manner not to get metal shavings in the bowl ---stuff with a rag etc.. - lay on side This will allow a better cap seal for the rubber gasket.

I'm the cheapest SOB you'll ever meet, and I got a new master on mine just becouse I wasn't sure about the old one. 20 bucks well spent.
Dennis told me about the file trick a few years ago, and I'll say it works grerat. |
