I am driving this thing to Decatur swap meet. I'm going to start pulling the 350 tomorrow and working staright through till Friday if I have too. I will overcome. I'll have to have a driveshaft made, modify the exhaust (that's another story itself), and build power steering brackets from scratch. I will get it done.

Re: I ran over my own rod
There is a big difference in crate motors & remans. Id rather slap a cheapie together & take a chance like you did than buy a reman. Can you say .080 over bores? Not for me. It sucks that it happened to you, & Ive been there too. It still sucks, hope better luck comes your way...corn

Sorry about your engine.. I hate it when that happens.. On the brighter side you're lucky it wasn't a boat. (btdt)

Re: I ran over my own rod
Just a question? I did a cheap rebuilt on a 327 it ran good but not what I expected, after about 2000 miles I was running about 40 mph and that little engine was running perfect. 5 seconds after a commented about it it threw a rod.
Is it just me or do they all run great just before they blow? Sorry about your loss.

Re: I ran over my own rod
Sorry for your loss. It seems like everything is a crapshoot anymore and you rolled snake eyes. Glad you have a good outlook on it. Keep us posted on how things are going. If you get ready to try it again let me know and we'll raid the parts pile. I'm 59 years old and in my life I've ran over a lot of my own stuff including my right foot but never a rod. Something to tell your grandkids when you have some.

Better to happen near home to save $$ with towing. Use the $$ saved to buy your wife some flowers.
![]() Any chance the rod can be analyzed for failure causes? I'd be interested. Any thoughts on wrist vs. floating pins? Do you have to do some engine crossmember work to throw in the 292? Or just swap in a 292 crossmember?

Re: I ran over my own rod
No crossmember mods needed. All of the holes are in the framerails from the factory. You just bolt the 292 mounts down and go.
Since the I6 engines use the rear positioning, and the SBC uses the front, I'll have to move the transmission back 3 inches or so and have the driveshaft shortened. This will make me have to build new shift linkage and extend the cooler lines too. I'll be busy, but I will drive this thing to the swapmeet on Friday morning.

Yes, drive it to Decatur . . .... w/a replacement 350 & save yourself a bunch of work in the meantime. I like 6's but that's too much to swap back. Your time is worth money, even to you.
