She's gettin kinda old...
Yep, while moving today she hit 500,000 miles. Of course no one documented all of them, so it is all on the word of the dope smokin old man...
None the less, some of it does seem to be that old. Any one ever noticed how low the front sits? Original springs. It does take a few miles to do that... And moments later.... She's sittin on the curb with 257 miles on the clock, and a cab in the back. |

There's a guy at Team Chevelle that has a 1970 Malibu with over 500,000 and he is the original owner! I also remember reading a story in an old (circa 1971-72) popular mechanics mag about a guy with a 1970 Belair. He bought it new and put over 700,000 miles on it and only had to replace normal wear items. It listed them like; 3 water pumps, 4 fan belts, etc. He had to retire it when the frame broke! I believe he put all these miles on in a year or 2. Somewhere I have that story. If I ever find it, I'll post it. Ya know, most of them could still be around with the right owners. It's not the vehicle, it's the person that owns it! Most people stop caring about a vehicle once they had it for a year or two. Guess that's why everyone is always selling cars/trucks. Not me though, I get too attached. Plus these oldies just aren't found for $300 a pop anymore! Mine are staying where they are!

Either that's one hell of a camera (honda in background NOT a green blur), and you've got some steady nerves, or your truck is on blocks.
I'd bet the latter. Hope the jack stands don't slip!

It could have that many miles. My 69 has almost 450,000 documented miles on it. I have receipts of it being worked on from all the way back to 69.

Wow...how did it come to this?
That pic was taken as I chainged lanes taking the off ramp from i-270 getting on i-70. The 'open door' on the Honda is my antenna. It's real. The low RPM's are only a little low, I have a TH350 with 3.07 gears, and 28 inch tall tires. It is a couple hundred low (at the most) becouse I had just let off the gas for the exit. The Honda was passing me since i let off. We were both cruisin 100MPH, and that's the speed I tried to get, the angle makes it look like 90, but it is closer to 95 in reality. and it is a heluva camera and it rides like it is on rails once I get on the high side of 80. I cruise 80 or so most the time on the freeway here, and I get passed on a regular basis. |

How long apart were your shots longhorn...Looks like your 90 plus shots are a few months older? Or is that 104,ooo mile earlier?
Got to admit though it is like you said, even my 6 popper with the 275/60-15s....seems to ride like a rail at 75/80....course mine sounds like a singer on drugs!!

He ain't liein'. Yeah, the 90mph pic is older. And the open door isn't one--it's his little rubber antenna. Usually in other pics you don't notice that one because of the RC antenna on the roof, though.

Well im going from memory so maybe I didn't get the story correct. Im certain that the mileage was over 700,000 though. Sure wish I could find that article.

I read..maybe the same article...it has been a while...but I believ the article came out in early 80's...I'd say 80-81...I remeber becasue I was in Japan at the time and the mag was abount 2 months slow getting there. Guys wasn't some super driver. Some sort of construction sales if I rememeber...plus he just like to drive his family and see the USA.

I don't have a rubber duckie antenna...it's worse...from a **** Tempo.
I thought about givinr the truck a shot of Vodka but the little lady didn't think it would be too cool...esp since it was rush hr. The 94 MPH shot is a little older, I think in the spring.And the other antenna is gone now. |

That is a nice area for calibrating the old speedo . Unless that off ramp is under construction. It seems like it's good for a year or two, then they tear it up for 5 or 6 years. But it is a good glide path for take off's and landings. Only get thru there bout once a year or every other year now, so I'm out of practice. Plus the kid is old enough not to buy the excuse that the reading she sees will always make it look like dad is speeding. You only see it correctly when you are looking straight at it.
