what year??
what year did they change the fuel door from round to square on the fleetside? anyone have photos of the round one?

These trucks never had a round "door" for gas. They had a cap sticking out of the side of the bed until 1981 when they changed to the new style front end. That's when they added a door to hide the gas cap..

Ken, not true. Gas doors came out in 1978.

The 78 in my avatar had a round hole and gas cap and it was definitely original .The truck was purchased May 23 ,1978 so it was at least a mid production year built truck . All of the 79's I have seen had the square lid . I think it started in 79 but it may have been a late 78 option . Frank

Yes, some 78's had the exposed cap, but some also had the square door (I owned one). Sometime during the year they switched.

78 was the transition year the later ones got the doors. Ken, you should know this... We are talking about GM here....
