Astro Van Columns
What's the deal on Astro/Safari steering columns. Our local yard will have about 35 Astro vans at all times. The column is pulled(sold - not stocked) on 30 of those. They get $26.50 complete from steering wheel to u-joint including all levers, switches, etc.
What do these fit? Why are they always gone? I never pick them up because I don't know what they fit(beside AstroVan) and they are almost always gone. Nobody (except me) pulls the van tilts that fit our trucks - I usually get 1 every 2 or 3 weeks - I'm becoming more selective. Help me out on the Astro Van deal. Thanks - Bob

Re: Astro Van Columns
I know some of the local junk yards will pull all tilt columns out of all GM vehicles, get them all confused with each other, tell you you are stupid when you ID the one they hand you as being wrong, and then charge way more than a junk yard column could ever be worth.

Re: Astro Van Columns
Hehe, I love it when they try to give me the wrong stuff and sit there and give me a bunch of attitude telling me they know what they're talking about. I only know about a few cars, but I know just about everything about those few cars....those guys know the very basics of cars in general!

Re: Astro Van Columns
I agree hole heartedly, Some people are to stuborn to listen to those of us who know alot about a very few cars, but this can and does work to my advantage,
Big Block motor mounts for the same price as small block, and other little parts like that, especially when it comes to picking things from the vans that work on our trucks.

Re: Astro Van Columns
Andy - I understand what you are saying but this yard DOES NOT stock parts. The columns make it out to the yard but just not for long.

Re: Astro Van Columns
CG - it's the pick a part right next to McChord AFB on 112th St S. From the Auburn/Kent area take 167 south to 512. Exit 512 at Steele St. Go south on Steele(back over 512) about 3 blocks to 112th. Turn right onto 112th. Turn left into the yard at 2416 South 112th St. Entrance is in back down below. Run by the Ferrell family. They have another yard in Lynnwood or south Everett. Only a buck to get in until April 3rd, then it's going to be $2.00
Make sure you bring your tools. Good hunting - Bob

Re: Astro Van Columns
Mark - You might call them first. 99 is somewhat new for them. # is 253-588-1775. Don't know what you want or if it goes back aways. Normally they deal in 10 year old and earlier.
