Gas smell and front brake hoses?

Could somebody tell me what the most common cause for gas smell in a 71 Cheyenne would be?
Also I bought new front brake hoses and they are too short. I have heard that is a common problem. Could someone tell me which hoses from another year would give me that extra inch to make them work. Its a 71 Cheyenne Super 2wd 1/2 ton. Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: Gas smell and front brake hoses?

Gas smell probable a cracked rubber hose coming out of tank behind seat.
Should be able to buy the right hose for that year unless you have a lift kit on it.

Just have to trace you gas line from tank to carb, and the carb too. If you have a locking gas cap, sometimes those don't seal very well either.

Re: Gas smell and front brake hoses?

The 71-72 3/4 and 1 ton front brake hoses are 1 inch longer than 1/2 ton hoses. I use them on all my trucks, regardless of 1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton.

Any 67-72 parts vendor will have them in stock.

Usually, a new gas cap will fix most gas smell in cab complaints.
