Allright last round of questions before I make the plunge into this 350 swap...

The 350 currently has an electric fuel pump on it will the mechanical one from my 305 bolt on? What other parts are interchangeable? The Ford doesn;t have power steering either, can I use the pump from my 305? Can I leave off the AIR pump (don't even know what that is). The setup on the front of the block looks the same and I plan on pulling both and setting them side by side and getting the 350 ready to go in. I'll more than likely be working alon. Thansk

By the way, I'll be at a field training excercise for the next week so I'll get back to anyreplies when I can. I should have net access tomorrow night. Thansk again.

All of the accessories from the 305 will install on the 350. The only exception would be if you were installing AC on an engine with an older aftermarket intake. Some of them do not have the threaded boss to mount a brace that runs back from the compressor mount.

The mechanical fuel pump will install on the 350 if it has been drilled and tapped for it. Some of the blocks from the late 80's have the fuel pump boss cast in the block but were not drilled for the pump pushrod or pump attaching hardware.

I agree. You're 305 front setup should interchange with the 350. If you're moving to Colorado, you may want to retain the AIR pump. The state requires to maintain whatever smog/emission setup that the stock vehicle came with.

Are there vehicle inspections there? A guy from CO Springs told me I didn't have to worry about it.

Army dude, yes they do inspections.. my dad got lucky and aquired an emissions expemtion sticker for his old 85 CJ-7, and i am pretty sure his 66 K10 is too old anyways..

What year is the 350? It may not have the provision for a mech fuel pump.

If it's an earlier 350, the dipstick will be on the driver's side, and will interfere with exhaust manifolds on 80's era trucks.

Secondly, 80's era trucks used the funny 7th bolt hole for the front bolt on the driver's exhaust manifold and the rearmost hole on the passenger side. The earlier 350 heads weren't tapped for the 7th hole.

I learned these lessons years ago putting a 70's vintage 350 into my 83 truck.

It's a newer 350 not sure of the year. Dipstick is on pass side.

PreRunner, I am currently a 91J (medical supply) I spent 6 years as an Apache crewman/mechanic.

Hey, you're an Army Dude, right? I'm an Army brat and now DHS/USCG AUX on the weekends. I moved back home to the Commonwealth, making Virgnia the 5th state I've had my truck registered in.

Keep all your original equipment. You have no way of predicting where you'll be stationed next!
