Unhappy Brake issues

I went to change the fluid in my Camaro brakes after about 15 years and did it by way of opening the valves and letting it drain out. I then proceeded to clean out the m/c with a rag and then bled the brakes. I was able to get a hard pedal, but the pedal went almost to the floor. I thought maybe I should've bled the m/c now, due to possible air entering the system and proceeded to do that today. I then re-bled the brakes and am still stuck with the same responce. The pedal goes to within 1" of the floor and is hard at that point, but that's waaaaay to far in to be safe. What do I need to do that I'm not doing?

Re: Brake issues

Okay I went back and adjusted all 4 star adjusters and the pedal seems better. (like with women, sometimes you just gotta walk away and cool down before you react!) I still think there's too much travel though. I know the rod is adjusted correctly (it's never been touched) and it's got about 3/8" play before I can feel it engage. Now the pedal is solid about 2" from the floor. It's definately not air because the pedal is solid. I just want it farther from the floor when it's reached full travel. Any ideas?

Re: Brake issues

Okay, after driving it yesterday it's better than I thought it was. While driving, the brake pedal travel isn't as bad as I had thought. If there were less, then it might make for some unsafe brakes. The brakes are much firmer than before I drained them of the old fluid and stop very well! The key was to simply adjust the star ajusters. I presume that the old fluid was bloated and the adjusters really need to be lubed since they weren't moving on there own.
